The stage lights dimmed, the music began, and our talented students transported the audience straight to Victorian London. This year’s secondary school production of Oliver! at The Aquila School, was a spectacular celebration of performing arts, creativity and student confidence.

From the very first note, it was clear that this was more than a school performance. It was a professional, polished showcase of drama, singing and dance that reflected the dedication, courage and teamwork of our secondary students.

Over several months of rehearsals, students committed themselves to bringing this iconic musical to life. From leading roles to ensemble numbers, from backstage crew to choreography, every student played a vital part in the success of the production. The result was an unforgettable evening of entertainment for families, staff and the wider Aquila community.

Oliver! demands strong acting, powerful vocals and dynamic choreography. Our students rose to the challenge with confidence and maturity. The energy of the ensemble numbers filled the theatre, while the quieter moments captured the emotion and depth of the story. Each performance demonstrated not only talent, but resilience, discipline and collaboration.

How Performing Arts Support Student Development

Performing arts at The Aquila School is about far more than taking to the stage. Through drama, students develop communication skills, empathy and self-expression. Through singing, they build confidence and vocal technique. Through dance and movement, they strengthen physical awareness and teamwork. These experiences nurture creativity while also developing transferable skills that support academic learning and personal growth.

Building Confidence and Personal Milestones

For many students, stepping onto the stage represents a significant personal milestone. Whether performing a solo, mastering complex choreography or managing technical elements behind the scenes, each challenge builds resilience and belief. The applause at the final curtain was not only for an outstanding show, but for the courage it took to get there.

Events like this highlight the strength of performing arts at The Aquila School and the breadth of opportunities available to our secondary students. As a BSO Outstanding British school in Dubai, we are proud to offer a well rounded education where academic excellence sits alongside creative expression.

Most importantly, the production brought our community together. Families gathered to celebrate the achievements of their children, and students experienced the powerful sense of belonging that comes from working towards a shared goal.

Looking Ahead to Future Performances

As we look ahead, the success of Oliver! inspires us to continue investing in drama, music and performance opportunities across the school. With each production, our students grow in confidence, creativity and character, and we look forward to seeing even more of their talent shine on stage in the years to come.
