Personal development

Students develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to keep themselves healthy and safe, to manage their lives effectively and to make informed choices through our Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) curriculum.

Ready to lead

Students build resilience, self-esteem, risk-management, teamworking and critical thinking through real-life challenges guided by the British PSHE Association Scheme.

By exploring health and wellbeing, relationships and living in the wider world topics, learners underpin their employability and prepare for their future role as parents and leaders. With a strong focus on personal safeguarding and accountability, students enhance their independence and ultimately take responsibility for themselves and their actions.

Ready to lead

Personal growth

Our PSHE programme is woven into our school curriculum and also links closely with our wellbeing action plan, as children's mental health and wellness are prioritised in all we do. Students are coached in their journey by expert teachers who pause the curriculum when needed and shape tailored interventions to address arising concerns, ensuring personal, social, physical and mental health.

Through the Zones of Regulation process students learn to identify, name and regulate their emotions, understanding the true meaning of respect and how to recognise unkind, mean or bullying behaviour in themselves and in others.

Personal growth

Safe space

At The Aquila School, students grow into well-rounded and confident individuals through a pastoral support system that teaches them how to manage themselves, interact well with others and control their feelings when facing conflict.

On a day-to-day basis, learners are guided in developing into assertive young people, neither passive nor aggressive, but strong and capable in thriving in a range of different contexts. When extra support is needed, our dedicated pastoral team is always there to help, ensuring every student feels valued and empowered to succeed.

Smart finance

Students at Aquila take charge of their financial future through our financial literacy programme. They master budgeting, saving, investing and managing loans and credit with confidence.

Through expert guidance, discussions and activities, students learn how to make sound financial decisions, such as how to save money, invest their money and pay off debt. They are also less likely to experience financial problems in the future.

By pitching business ideas in the Bird Cage competition, students build entrepreneurial spirit and real-world financial skills. Every hands-on activity empowers them to make smart choices, avoid debt and set ambitious goals.
