Principal’s Message

Dear Family,

We are working very hard to get everything ready so that when the school opens for the new academic year we will be able to provide our children with amazing learning. We are busy choosing books and resources, recruiting staff and ensuring our curriculum will motivate and inspire the whole community so that every Aquila pupil will love coming to school. We will ensure that the school will be the heart of our community and we would welcome the opportunity to meet you to talk about how our school could meet the needs
of your child.

Our school will be led by myself and Kylie Cleworth. We have worked together for the last six years at the first school in Abu Dhabi ever to be graded as Outstanding in all areas plus the first (and at the time of writing only) school to have been graded as outstanding in two consecutive inspections. We bring a wealth of knowledge and local experience that will ensure that Aquila children have access to amazing learning.

Warm wishes,
Wayne Howsen
Principal

Our School

Take a sneak peek at our building coming to life. Every single detail carefully designed to enrich and fuel the imagination of a child to encourage creativity and independent learning. Our calming classrooms and spacious outdoor environments help create a „home away from home‟ where children are free to invent, dream and play – the perfect conditions for a love of learning to flourish. We are excited to announce very soon we will be opening a section of the building for families to come and see what our classrooms will look like and try out the facilities for themselves. One of the special features about The Aquila School is that unlike other schools it will not be full of long corridors- there will be natural learning spaces which can be used for children to engage in creative learning activities. Outside there will be a large number of outdoor learning areas and we have been busy this week designing these to provide a range of physical and play based stimuli.

Visit Us

Come and meet our team and see the school build in action. Families are welcome to come and visit our Visitor Centre in the Solitaire Cascades building opposite the site of the school. Later in the Spring we will be opening a further centre inside the school building. We are open from 8 am to 5 pm each day and at weekends by appointment.

Teacher Profile

Hayley Bird

Hayley has over 7 years‟ experience working with children and for the past 5 years she has worked in a large primary school in the UK. Having worked with children across the primary age range Hayley has a great understanding of how children learn and how to ensure learning is engaging, enjoyable and relevant. As well as being a qualified teacher, Hayley holds a qualification in cognitive behaviour therapy.
Principal, Wayne Howsen comments.

“Kylie and I were lucky to have over 150 applicants to be the first teachers in our new school. As soon as we started to talk to Hayley we knew instantly that we wanted her to be part of our term. Her
enthusiasm for ensuring that children will learn at levels that amaze them and her understanding of the community ethos we are creating made her perfect for The Aquila School”

The Aquila School Launch Event

What a delightful day we had at our Open Launch on Saturday. We really enjoyed getting to know all our families who are joining the school and meeting new ones! The treasure hunt proved a big hit and the children (and some parents) enjoyed showing off their arts and crafts skills. The highlight of the day had to be our Principal, Mr Howsen’s special assembly where some of our new students joined in the fun and had
everybody in fits of laughter.
