Athletes in Schools is a concept that brings British Olympians, Paralympians, and Team GB athletes into schools throughout the UAE, with the purpose of inspiring the future generation by increasing positivity and happiness. They offer unique opportunities for young sportsmen and women aged 5 -16 to experience high quality, challenging & fun activities both during school, and as part of a school holiday programme throughout the year.

At The Aquila School we are very proud to have two of our children- Aliyah Mainuddin (Year 4) and Adam Aser (Year 3) recently take part in the programme on a two-day camp with team GB athletes. Over this time, they were able to train with professional athletes focusing on a range of track and field sports. This was a fantastic opportunity for the children to gain an insight into prospects within the athletics community.

Aquila’s brand new state-of-the-art facilities which have been designed to enrich children’s learning experiences. Aliyah’s mum, Jovie Mainuddin commented that “When choosing Aquila, Aliyah was particularly interested in making sure she would get plenty of opportunities to participate in sports training- in particular athletics. A combination of a program like this and a sports focused school definitely helps inspire passion in little athletes to learn and grow”. Aliyah joined the programme in September 2018 but is very keen to progress and continue with Athletes in Schools. Aliyah regularly trains with Ultimate Athletics- an athletics training academy that provides expert coaching from athletes from around the globe, which is how she came to know about Athletes in Schools. Aliyah is very keen about training and taking on new opportunities to train! Her main inspiration came from the opportunity to train with professional athletes!

Adam’s mum, Amany Mahmoud explained that “I am so happy that the school makes sure the children have sport included in their week. It enables the children to place their energy into something which they aspire to do and helps bring up their confidence”. Adam also recently joined the Athletes in Schools programme in September 2018 and found it a fantastic experience! He is very excited to attend the next camp and practice on his running and throwing techniques.

The Aquila School found out about the programme and invited the Athletes into the school to conduct an array of activities with the children. This was a fantastic opportunity for both Aliyah and Adam to share their experiences with the rest of the school!
